These three alphabets, all capital letters, are recharted and adapted from an old French book of letters for embroidery. The book was published by N. Alexandre.
I found the book on a marvelous resource for needlework lovers, the Antique Pattern Library. Like many resources that capture items in the public domain for us, the material in uneven in quality. For example in this book I could only see pairs of pages and my printer could only print a portion of the right hand page full-size. This happened even if the full page could be seen in the thumbnails.
In the future I will be bringing you more antique and vintage alphabets, recharted for modern needlepoint.
Small Block Letters
This all caps alphabet is five stitches high. This is the smallest size you can have for alphabets. It is similar to many other alphabets this high, but that is because there isn’t much room for embellishment here.

Country Capitals Alphabet
This alphabet, nine stitches high, has the feel of an alphabet you might find on an old sampler. If you needed to make a name or words, this alphabet would make great capitals when the previous alphabet was used for the small letters.

Curvy Alphabet
Even though this alphabet is from the late 1800’s, I think it has a very contemporary feel. I love the curves and curliques. It is too thin and light to work as an initial except on projects that are girly or lighter in feel.
This alphabet is 16 letters high. Because of all the flourishes, many of these letters won’t work well to start words.
