This simple leaf design can be effective for a pillow when stitched in several shades of “fall” colors on a dark green background. Anne Orr suggests three shades of tans, greens, or reds, on a dark background of brown, blue, or black.
I think it would be a superb background for a floral piece if you used the needlepoint damask idea of slightly contrasting shades of one color, or contrasting textures of the same color.
