What needlepoint information do you wish was on-line? Ever since I started providing content about needlepoint on-line in 1996 (yes that is 20 years) a few things have been obvious to me:
- Folks like to have information where it can be found easily
- There aren’t huge numbers of sites where needlepoint information can be found
- Other needlework communities, namely knitting and quilting, are better at this
- We would like to be better at this
Many folks who blog, in any subject, complain about two things: too many other blogs on the subject and writer’s block. Maybe I’m weird, or needlepoint’s weird, or both (probably both), but I don’t have these problems. I follow dozens of needlepoint blogs and get almost as many email newsletters (if I don’t get yours add me to your list) so I know that there lots of information that isn’t on-line. Being a life-long stitcher and innately curious, I also can come up with ideas.
But a needlepoint blog is also a permanent conversation and you’re part of that conversation. So today I want your wishlist to help shape what appears and how you can use it. I’ve got some questions. Think about them and answer them, either in the comments, by emailing me, or by contacting me on Facebook.
And I’d love answers from as many people as possible. Ask your friends what they would like to see.
Here’s what I am wondering:
- What information do you wish was on the Internet about needlepoint that you wish was there but can’t find?
- How can I make the information here easier for you to use?
- What questions do you have that haven’t been answered?
Of course you can let me know anything else you’d like to see.
And folks who respond will be getting a gift.
And thanks heaps for your help!

I would love to know how to have twisted cord meet so it doesn’t appear obvious. I have a set of cookies to finish and a bow at the joint isn’t appropriate like on an ornament as I want to display them on a plate and not hang them. I’ve search for both videos and written instructions with no luck. Thanks.

Hello Janet,
I would like to know when and where needlepointers meet to sit and stitch, especially “groups” open to new members, occasional drop ins, and / or out of town visitors.
I would organize it geographically. If possible, I would make it searchable by such other fields as day(s) of the week, Needlepoint only or varied, etc.
Warmest regards,
Dishwanter

That’s a great idea. Let me figure out how to implement it.
Kee stitching, Janet

I would like more detailed instructions on finishing. I’ve searched endlessly and can’t find much. Instructions for standups, ornaments…flat, puffed, balls, eggs…and for pillows, embellishments…. Videos would be ideal, but detailed instructions with photos is great too.

Finishing isn’t my best thing but I’ll look for some tutorials for you.
Keep stitching,
Janet

Janet, if we want the stitching arts to continue after us, we must provide themes, settings for learning and sharing, and quality materials at a reasonable price for younger stitchers. These potential stitchers have less time, money and appreciate the use of technology in their everyday lives. Suggestions: smaller projects, more utilitarian projects, fewer flowers and more updated, contemporary themes for projects, and direction for finding helps online. Bringing together painted canvases, suggested stitches, threads and embellishment together with the when, where, how and why of use would be great.
Or perhaps directions to various online sources for each of these needs for an up-to-date project. Sorry I got windy, but what is the average age of a needlepointer these days?
